Michelle Obama SINGLE??....Michelle Obama Under Fire For Mistakenly Calling Herself a Single Mother!! -- Michelle Obama is kicking herself. In proof that the mouth is faster than the brain, the first lady referred to herself as a "busy single mother" in a CBS interview. (Video below).
She then said, well, no, she's not single. But, she told a Vermont CBS affiliate, "sometimes when you've got the husband who's president, it can feel a little single -- but he's there." She corrected her characterization to "busy working mom."
so considered, it's a rather genuine slip-up from a mom who probably doesn't always have it easy. Like first ladies throughout history, she's unpaid and has no official duties but is constantly in the spotlight. First ladies are political celebrities; their actions, as well as their flubs, subject to criticism and, these days, dissection on social media.
How much parenting help does the first lady actually get from the president? In 2009, he described his typical day as including about two hours at the end of the day for his daughters: "...work till about 6:30 p.m.; have dinner with the family, hang out with the kids and put them to bed about 8:30 p.m."
Malia is now 14 and Sasha, 11. And as many parents can attest, the challenges tend to grow along with the children. The Obamas, of course, aren't the first first family to raise kids in the White House. Remember the Bush twins Chelsea? Amy? Above are some of the kids who have logged years on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Meanwhile, President Obama is in the glare of the spotlight for a comment he made about California's Kamala Harris as the "best looking attorney general." (On Friday Obama called Harris to apologize for the remark.) New York magazine notes the president's tendency also to refer to "important" men as good looking.
With all the flubs, it's likely some interesting conversations will be going on in the White House Executive Residence.
