Jay-Z Releases New Song 'Open Letter': Listen
It seems Jay-Z is not amused by the controversy surrounding his and Beyonce's trip last week to Havana, Cuba. Inspired and frustrated, Hov went into the studio for an impromptu recording session alongside Timbaland and Swizz Beatz.
Listen to Jay-Z's "Open Letter," via Hot97 and Life and times, in which he addresses the recent rush of headlines targeting him, from his ownership over the Brooklyn Nets and his anniversary trip to Cuba, as well as his newly signed deal with Universal.
"Hear the freedom in my speech/ Got an onion from Universal, read it and weep/ Could’ve bought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/ Except I made millions off it, you fuckin' dweeb/ I still own the building, I’m still keeping my seat/ Y’all buy that bullshit, you’d better keep your receipt/ Obama said chill, you gonna get me impeached/ But you don’t need this shit anyway/ Chill with me on the beach," he raps.
Florida Republicans stirred up controversy last week when suggesting that Bey' and Jay-Z had broken the law by visiting Cuba without permission. It was later confirmed, by bilboard, that the couple's travel had been legally set up by Academic Arrangements Abroad, a New York-based educational company that offers group travel to Cuba.
In the song, Jay seems to respond to his critics in Congress -- Miami-based Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart, as well as Sen. Marco Rubio .
"Politician never did shit for me/except lie to me, distort history/Wanna give me jail time and a fine/Fine, lemme commit a real crime"
