.Uncle Phil From The "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" Died Today In Glendale, California!! He Was 68 Years Old!!!

        

James Avery, the actor who played Uncle Phil on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," died on Tuesday, his publicist confirmed to ABC News. The actor, 68, died from complications of open heart surgery, publicist Cynthia Snyder said. He died in Glendale, Calif.

Born James La Rue Avery in Virginia, Avery was raised in Atlantic City. After high school, he served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969 as a member of the U.S. Navy. After returning home, Avery moved to San Diego, where he wrote poetry and TV scripts for PBS, including the Emmy Award-winning production, "Ameda Speaks: Poet James Avery."

However, Avery perhaps was most beloved for his acting. In addition to his most famous role on the sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," he also lent his voice to several animated TV series, including "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Iron Man." He also appeared on the big screen in films including "Dr. Dolittle 2" and "License to Drive," and hosted the travel series "Going Places" on PBS.

 Most recently, Avery worked on Zach Braff's film, "Wish I Was Here," which will premiere at the Sundance film festival.

 " I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away," his "Fresh Prince" co-star Alfonso Ribeiro tweeted. "He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."

Avery is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara, his stepson, Kevin Waters, and his mother, Florence.

Kobe Bryant still on pace to start for the West in second round of All-Star returns

The NBA released the second round of fan voting results for the 2014 All-Star Game on Thursday, and while there weren’t any changes at the top of the order, several positional races remain as tight as ever.

Among Western Conference frontcourt players there looks to be but a single lock. Kevin Durant (Thunder) ranks second among vote-getters overall thus far with 850,728 votes, but behind him are three qualified candidates within 30,000 votes of one another. Dwight Howard (Rockets) currently ranks just behind Durant with 408,623 votes, and trailing him are Blake Griffin (Clippers) with 399,357 and Kevin Love (Timberwolves) with 377,941. Only two of those three players can be voted in as starters by the fans, though all four are likely to make the All-Star roster in some form.

Ice-T Launches New “Final Level” Podcast

Hip-Hop star Ice-T will venture into the world of podcasting for the first time in January, with the launch of a new podcast.

On January 7, the veteran rapper will launch the “Ice-T: Final Level” podcast with digital agency The Paragon Collective.

The “Final Level” show will be co-hosted by long time manager, Mick Benzo of Sirius XM’s long running Hip-Hop show Zulu Beatz.

The rapper will produce two “Final Level” podcasts each month, that will feature him talking about current affairs, along with special guest interviews from the entertainment world, along with listener call-in’s.

“Podcasting is a great next step for me and my guy. It’s an uncensored medium, and it’s a direct connection with my fans,” Ice-T said.  ”Mick Benzo and I can explore any topic we’re interested in without restrictions, from video games to philosophy to rap and rock. And I also don’t have to leave my crib.”

The first episode of the “Final Level” podcast features Ice-T discussing his experiences with fans who cannot separate his rap persona from his character on “Law & Order: SVU,” which is now in its 15th season.

“We believe Ice has one of the most earnest and distinct voices in the entertainment industry. Whether he’s rapping, acting or talking about the First Amendment, his fans appreciate what he has to say and what he stands for,” a rep for Paragon added, noting that the show already attracted sponsors like squaresspace and NatureBox, to ensure the show remains free to listeners.

The “Ice-T: Final Level” podcast will be available via his websiteand iTunes starting on Tuesday, January 7th.
